This was Bryan’s tattoo, but it was written in ancient Greek. Because he’s Bryan.
Here is a list of all the things that I am **not** excelling at:
-Getting enough sleep
-Waking up on time
-Eating a balanced diet #doritos (don’t judge me)
-Washing my face nightly
-Taking my contacts out before falling asleep
-Putting sheets on my bed
-Keeping my room clean
-Wearing shoes without holes in them
-Staying awake on the subway
-Staying up-to-date on current events
-Not crying in public
-Having a delete button that works (blogging is soooooo fun right now)
Here are some things that I am “excelling” at (read: have checked off The List):
-Go to Canada
-Re-watch all of the most important Halloween movies: Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, Nightmare Before Christmas
-Go apple picking/pumpkin patching/corn mazing/bake a pie (read: reach maximum basic level)
-Make an item of clothing
-Have a pet
-Run a 5k
The 5k is probably the only thing that most people would agree is actually note worthy on that list. But give a girl a break, I’m trying to celebrate small successes here!
I trained for the run for 6 weeks before my ankle started to give out. Apparently, when people tell you to invest in running shoes they aren’t full of shit. In a few short weeks I managed to develop peroneal tendonitis, which basically means I wore stupid shoes while running and as a result I lost the ability to walk without intense pain. Side note: It’s really glamorous to have tendonitis when you work in retail.
1.5 weeks of rest, 1 expensive pair of running shoes, and approximately 400 anti-inflammatory pills later the run had arrived. Lila, Laura, Phoebe, and I had all agreed to walk it, but once we got to the start Lila and I decided to just try to run for a little while. A little while turned in to 3.1 miles of run/dancing to Spice Girls & 90s music.
We are ADULTS.
It was so satisfying to complete this 5k. It made me feel accomplished & empowered. And around mile 2.5 when I started to wonder why in the world I decided this was a good idea I just started thinking about what Bry would say if I finished the whole thing. I kept imaging him after the PMC telling me how proud he was of me. It didn’t feel like he was there but it made the last ½ mile a little brighter.
Let the 10k training begin!
