Here’s the thing about running. People always say that running is super therapeutic: just you, your thoughts, and a ton of endorphins to help you figure out your shit.
I thought, “Oh that sounds great! Let’s do that!”
Confession: I have this mental image of myself as someone who can run far distances. Like, in my mind, one day I might do a marathon. It’s that same part of my brain that thinks I’m taller than everyone (I’m 5’2’’).
Luckily, that delusional part happens to have access to my credit cards so I’m registered for a 5K in November. **insert emoji of that girl with her hand up**
So I’m training for this 5k and it’s definitely not horrible, but it’s definitely not therapeutic in the way that I thought it would be.
Expectation: I’ll go run for a while and clear my mind. Be able to put things in perspective. Find a bigger understanding of what has happened. Feel strong and accomplished.
Reality: My brain while running- “Don’t die. Don’t die. Keep breathing. Don’t trip. Is it over? Are your ankles supposed to feel like that? Help. S.O.S. WHY GOD”
But weirdly, I love it. Which is convenient because I’ve already signed up. It’s happening and my beautiful angel roommates are doing it too. Because they’ve also purchased tickets for the “Violet’s Identity Crisis Express”. ALL ABOARD! But don’t worry, it gets better….
Even though training for this run is definitely not easy/breezy/beautiful—I’ve now decided to simultaneously start training for a century bike ride. Yep, that’s 100 miles folks. Because logic.
Long story short: I’m finalizing my Century Ride details, purchasing a bike in the next few weeks (I borrowed one for the PMC), and figuring out a training plan.
I’m basically an endorphin junky right now… and maybe masochistic?
The ridiculous part? After I decided to start training for the Century I legitimately thought to myself, “This is great, maybe I’ll do a 10K & triathlon next”.
Cue the little voice in the back of my head, “Way to go, Shmoo”
WHO AM I?!
